A l’image d’autres paris “fous” que nous aimons lancer au public et à nous mêmes (Ciné-marathon fantastique 40h non stop, Hitchcock / Gus Van sant Synchronie, Reflet dans un œil Gore, 24h Woody Allen…), les premières nuits du cinéma sont nés d’envies de membres de l’équipe (salariés et bénévoles) de se retrouver autour de films “cultes”, films de genre, thématiques autour d’un acteur ou d’un réalisateur. C’est pour nous l’occasion de faire coïncider films de l’actualité et classiques et pour le public de partager une soirée entre “potes”.
Déjà, dans le milieu des années 70, le Cinéma LUX avait initié les fameux “minuits fantastiques” dont plusieurs générations de cinéphiles se souviennent encore. Ces rendez-vous ont tous connus à leur manière de très grands succès. Par la suite les nuits de 5 films ont connu des déclinaisons autour de soirées de 3 films. Le Cinéma LUX a réussi grâce à ces différents rendez-vous à s’attacher un public fidèle, et à élargir les champs de la cinéphilie, celle là même qui va d’Hitchcock à Ferrara, de Buñuel à Desplechin en passant par Cronenberg et Tarantino...
